Vogue!

Everyone's seen or heard about this by now (if not, click here to see this clip from the 2003 MTV VMA's). But just LOOK at them. Hot. The shitty thing is when the camera crew decided to cut away right after this for crowd reaction which made us MISS Madonna tongueing-down Christina Aguilera as well.

Fuckers.

Still, now that Madonna's done this, it's going to be in fashion.

I'd now like to raise my glass to that gracefully aging diva and thank her in advance for future public displays of lesbianic affection.

Update 9/2/2003: Thank god for other cameramen!

This picture got me all excited.

I know Peter Jackson took a few more liberties with 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers', but what he did worked quite well and everytime I watch it (I've had a QUALITY DVD bootleg since January) I keep liking things he did more and more. I love when the Elves come to help at Helm's Deep which doesn't happen in the books. The Elves couldn't be bothered with what was going on. They were going off to the "Grey Havens", never to return. The change for the film worked in that it made you believe that EVERYONE in Middle Earth was going to be effected if the bad guys won.

Like Merry said to Treebeard: "How can you just do nothing? You live in this world!"

I also loved Gollum.

Sure, he's the greatest CGI creation ever and Andy Serkis' performance was incredible, but it pales compared to the way he was written for the screen. When reading 'The Hobbit', 'The Two Towers' and 'Return of the King', it's easy to feel pity for Gollum. He's completely corrupted by the Ring. The thing is you never really feel that softer side of him when reading the books. I could be dead wrong, but I just didn't "feel" that he had a good side. I thought he was written as an evil thing, through and through. I never got the sense that he cared about anything other than the Ring. This is NOT the Gollum I saw in the film. No way.

'The Two Towers' Extended DVD set is coming this November, and like 'The Fellowship of the Ring' Extended Edition, it's going to have some serious extra footage to drool over. Little things that will mean so much to fans like me who have read the books and missed the fact that little details were left out for time. There's a whopping 45 minutes of extra footage being added to 'The Two Towers' which will bring the already almost 3 hours long movie to almost 4 hours long. I can already not feel my butt.

Anyway. I just found a picture which is an example of one of those small details I just mentioned, and a still from the Extended Edition of 'The Two Towers'. Whenever I read 'The Two Towers', I always pictured the Emyn Muil as a treacherous place. Cliffs to scale down, sharp rocks, dirty. Not just a rocky environment you'd walk through, but one where you'd need to repell with a rope. Perhaps a rope that was given to someone in the extended 'Fellowship of the Ring' by Galadriel in Lothlorien. In the book, Sam and Frodo had a really rough time getting through that terrain. They had to scale down awful rock walls, just like we see here:

If all the little details are as good as this one, I'm going to be a happy camper in November.

So I'm not sleeping well.

Not sleeping well at all.

Quiet and dark seem to bring on images and memories that I'd rather not deal with going to sleep. And it's not that I don't want to have them. I just would like to be able to deal with them during the day. To have that choice. Which I don't.

Sometimes you have moments when everything's cool. Sometimes you have moments when you can look back on things and laugh. Sometimes you even smile.

I look forward to moments like this.

The moments I don't look forward to are the ones where you forget anything ever happened.

Moments when you think that he's still here. Just a phone call or a car ride away.

I'd love to have the strength or the innocence that my eldest daughter has at age 2 about this. It's not that she really understands. Maybe she does. Maybe she doesn't. But one thing is clear: she loved her grampa and will never forget him. This was made apparent one car ride home where my daughter was having a conversation with herself (as most two-year-olds are apt to do).

"Where Grampa?"

"In Hebed. Gardeen Angel."

"Bye Bye Grampa!"

"I lub you Grampa!"

Yeah.

I think she gets it.
